General Manager – Hamish McMurdo
Hamish joined Southland disAbility Enterprises Ltd. after many years working outside of the region. Hamish, a born and bred Southlander, is thrilled to be enjoying the delights of living and working in Southland.
Hamish’s background includes being a butcher by trade followed by time in the food processing industry. He then went on to teaching during which he was introduced to disability in education where he honed his skills working with, and advocating for people with disabilities.
Hamish has been a referee for over 20 years and now coaches rugby referees both on the local and representative scene. He has also had a long association with cricket coaching and coached the North Otago Team to Hawke Cup victory in 2016.
Hamish sets high expectations for both himself and the staff. With this in mind he hopes to capitalise on the robust foundations that have been laid in the past at Southland disAbility Enterprises Ltd.
Hamish’s aspirations include growing the business recycling components of e-waste, business collections and developing market streams for bale wrap whilst enhancing the working conditions for all the staff through providing new revenue streams for product that is readily available.

Kirk Rae – Operations Manager
Kirk is based in Invercargill with his partner and children currently liv
ing in Rimu, just outside of Invercargill .
Southland born and bred, Kirk has a broad and varied work experience, starting his career with Air New Zealand in customer service and working his way through to consultant roles in travel, the steel industry, recruitment and most recently as the Referee Education Officer for Rugby Southland.
He strikes immediately with his maturity, down to earth nature and open, candid demeanour. He is astute, self-aware and is willing and confident.
What is evident with Kirk is a natural communicator – his roles have all relied on his ability to communicate with a cross section of the community both in business and sport.
There’s no getting around it – he is passionate about rugby – and in particular refereeing and the coaching of, as well as the facilitation aspects.
Kirk is responsible for the operational management of SdE and its Tiwai departments, scheduling and planning, and as well as the host of logistical matters that we encounter here at SdE.
Janine Cruickshank – Human Resources Manager
Janine is the HR Manager where no two days are ever the same. It is a diverse role she finds very rewarding and one that Janine is very passionate about.
Since starting with SdE in December 2015, Janine has completed various trainings to do with her role, including that of Workplace Assessor.
Prior to working for SdE Janine was employed in the Aged Care Sector for 7 years.
Janine is married and they have two high school aged boys who are involved in the Invercargill Highland Pipe Band. As a family they enjoy spending time together whenever possible.

I first worked for Employment Connections from June 2003 to end of August 2005. Following my break away; I re-joined the team here at Employment Connections, December 2012. It felt like coming home to family and I am enjoying the new directions and challenges, our work brings.

Shelly returned to work at Employment Connections in 2016 after some time away pursuing other business opportunities.
Shelley is passionate about her job and the people we work with every day. She is creative and skilled at tailoring people to jobs and is extremely supportive.
Shelley also maintains her own business as well as enjoying photography and motor sport with her partner and daughter.
